The Client Brief

BAE Systems in Farnborough is located on a business park next to Farnborough Airport. The airport hosts the Farnborough International Airshow with this year’s show taking place from 16 – 22nd July. Open to trade during the week, and the public over the weekend, the show is hosted every two years with thousands of visitors.
As well as exhibiting at the Farnborough Airshow, BAE Systems works with the event organiser to control a visitor access gate to the show. Securitas were briefed to manage these security requirements.
The Securitas Solution
A team of 15 Securitas officers were deployed for the full week of the show, to patrol the BAE Systems car parks, direct employees and visitors to the entry gate and carry out searches of all visiting individuals.
During the week, BAE Systems’ employees and their invited visitors accessed the show through the gate. All individuals had to pass through a body scanner and their bags were security checked.
On the weekend, BAE opened two of their car parks to the visiting public, allowing close and easy access to the show. Again, visitors could only enter the show after going through the security gate. Officers were on hand in the car parks to manage the arrival of cars, check permits and direct visitors to the gate.
With more people in the business park than usual, the team of officers also increased surveillance of BAE Systems’ offices and surrounding areas.
Andy Lampard, Security Controller at BAE Systems commented:
“The Farnborough International Airshow attracts thousands of visitors over the seven days. This results in a higher footfall of people on BAE Systems premises, as they make their way to the show. So, an additional level of security is required to keep employees, visitors and property safe.
“Securitas were asked to manage our event security, in addition to their daily duties on-site. The requirements were only briefed in at the end of June, but the necessary risk assessments were undertaken, and the security team mobilised in good time.
“We have a positive working relationship with Securitas, and the team worked hard over the week to ensure safe and smooth access to the show for BAE Systems’ employees, their visitors and members of the public.”
