Improving night security through robotics, centralised monitoring and real-time data
Recruiting qualified guards for night shifts was becoming increasingly difficult for one large outlet centre in Germany, welcoming thousands of visitors across a wide retail environment.
The site needed to maintain reliable nighttime security while reducing dependence on guard positions that were becoming harder to staff and sustain over time.
Together with Securitas, the client implemented a hybrid security model combining on-site personnel, autonomous robotics and centralised monitoring.
Creating more consistent night coverage through technology and human expertise
To address these challenges, Securitas implemented a hybrid security setup combining on-site guarding, autonomous patrols and centralised monitoring.
Our security and technology experts designed the model around three operational objectives:
- Maintain reliable night coverage across the site
- Reduce dependence on increasingly difficult-to-fill night shifts
- Improve operational visibility and response through connected monitoring
These operational objectives were translated into a hybrid security model where human expertise and technology complement each other throughout day and night operations.
How the hybrid security model works in practice
The solution combined on-site personnel, autonomous patrols and centralised monitoring into one connected operational model:
- During the day, on-site guards remains present to support operations, assist visitors and provide visible security presence across the outlet centre.
- At night, an autonomous patrol robot takes over perimeter patrols. It follows predefined routes, continuously monitors the site and detects irregularities based on predefined criteria.
- The robot is connected directly to the Securitas Security Operations Centre (SOC). When unusual activity is detected, alerts are immediately transmitted to SOC operators, who review the situation in real time using the robot's video and data feeds.
- If intervention is required, mobile patrols can be dispatched directly to the site.
This creates a security model where every alert is verified by people, supported by technology, before action is taken.
Measurable improvements in coverage, efficiency and visibility
The benefits of the hybrid security model became visible quickly.
