Intruder detection: Your first line of defence

Effective intrusion detection for your business

Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) use electronic security technology to deter, detect and deny the threat of intruders, burglars and trespassers seeking to force their way into your premises or breach your site perimeter.

There are a several types of intrusion detection system. The most common use of intrusion prevention systems is to protect individual buildings and their contents, particularly at times when a building is unoccupied, such as overnight or during holiday periods.

For organisations with large sites or an extensive site perimeter to monitor, additional technologies are available to create a Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS).

How does an intruder detection system work?

IDS systems are made up of a network of electronic sensors and detection devices that are connected to a central control panel and communicate using cables, wireless frequencies or a mixture of both. When switched on (armed), the system is designed to act like a spider’s web, setting an invisible trap for any intruder that crosses its path. If an intruder disturbs the web, the system will trigger a loud audible alarm, as well as being able to initiate a response from our 24/7 alarm monitoring services.

The importance of intruder alarm monitoring

If an intruder is detected by your alarm system, real action can only be taken if the right people know about the threat as soon as it happens. This is where the value of alarm monitoring shines through. When linked up to our round-the-clock monitoring service, you can rely on the fact that immediate action will be taken - such as contacting you, your nominated keyholders and if eligible, the Police.

Monitored systems can help you minimise losses, reduce the cost of your buildings insurance and raise the chances of catching criminals in the act.
