Securitas sponsors Team AcceleRace – UK winners of F1 in Schools

28 August 2018

Securitas UK is proud to be a sponsor of Team AcceleRace, an all-girl team from Linlithgow Academy representing the UK in the world finals of F1 in Schools. Scottish-based Team AcceleRace won the UK finals at Silverstone, on 19th March, to qualify for the world finals in Singapore in September.

F1 in Schools is a global STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) competition to design, build and race a miniature F1 car. Competing teams design their car using 3D CAD tools, following regulations set by the international rules committee, before manufacturing it using CAM software. In its 14th year, F1 in Schools will welcome over 50 teams from over 25 countries, all competing for the World Champions title. Securitas welcomed the opportunity to support the initiative.

Grainne Kelly, HR & SOC Director at Securitas UK commented: “It’s a pleasure to be a sponsor of Team AcceleRace. To win the UK finals is an achievement in itself, and we look forward to cheering the team on at the World finals in September. It’s important to encourage girls to take up a career in STEM, to ensure a less male dominated workforce in the future. The security industry is also male dominated, so we understand the importance of a diverse workforce.

To keep the team safe, and give peace of mind to parents, we have provided the girls with Vismo - a GPS app that will track their location as they travel, via phone or tablet. Vismo connects to Securitas’ Operations Centre (SOC) in Milton Keynes, where a team of SOC operatives will remotely monitor their whereabouts at all times and make contact should help be needed.”
